LEGAL EXPERIENCE:
August 1969 to November 1970 - Assistant Attorney with the CITY OF NEW YORK HOUSING AND DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION, Department of Rent and Housing Maintenance, Office of Rent Control. Was assigned, and determined over 170 protests (appeals) which had been filed by aggrieved parties from decisions of the various District Rent Directors. Types of cases handled, which occasionally involved the conduct of an administrative hearing, included eviction, decontrol, and relocation proceedings; and rental and hardship adjustments.
November 1970 to August 1972 - Attorney Advisor with the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT, Manchester (New Hampshire) Area Office. Conducted Multi-Family Housing and College Housing Bond Closings in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Member of a specially-assigned team to cause the development of Turnkey III Homeownership Housing for the Passamaquoddy Indians in the State of Maine. Also provided legal services and assistance in connection with other programs then being administered by HUD, including the Urban Renewal Program.
August 1972 to January 1973 – Deputy Director of the NEW ENGLAND NON-PROFIT HOUSING DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION, Concord, New Hampshire. Assisted private non-profit Corporations in the development of low and moderate income housing through funding vehicles and programs available from HUD, the Farmer’s Home Administration, Office of Economic Opportunity, and the New England Regional Commission. Prepared and developed proforma loan documentation on special assignment to the Maine State Housing Authority.
January 1973 to September 1978 - Attorney Advisor with the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT, Phoenix, Arizona. Conducted Multi-Family Housing Closings in Arizona and Southern California. Provided other legal services and assistance involving the HUD Single Family Loan Program, Planned Unit Developments, Condominiums, and Administrative and Personnel Matters. Adjudicated administrative personnel grievances in Arkansas, Missouri, and Washington for HUD as a Civil Service Commission-approved Grievance Examiner.
September 1978 to July 1979 - Member of the Law Firm of BURTON, PHELPS, MCMAHON, AND WEIDEMAN, P.C. Scottsdale, Arizona. Engaged in the general practice of law, with emphasis in corporate, business, and real estate matters. Real Estate activities included HUD Multi-Family Developments, and conventional residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Commenced representation of Indian Housing Authorities within the State of Arizona.
July 1979 to March 1980 - Vice-President/General Counsel of CANAVEST, INC., Scottsdale, Arizona. Provided legal services and assistance to the Corporation to consummate its acquisition and/or development of residential, commercial, industrial, and retail projects. Continued, on a part-time basis, to engage in the private practice of law, in the representation of Indian Housing Authorities and other clients having business before HUD.
March 1980 to Present - Engages in the private practice of law, as a sole proprietor, and from August, 1980 as the sole shareholder of the LAW OFFICES OF JOHN W. WEIDEMAN, P.C., an Arizona professional corporation. The practice entails extensive representation in all facets of corporate, business, real estate, and administrative law, including U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development matters, and Native American Housing Law. With respect to HUD legal matters, legal services, assistance, and advice are rendered to profit-motivated and non-profit Project Owners, as well as to Lenders providing HUD-insured mortgage financing.
